Albert Patch, a 16-year veteran of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), was killed by an inmate on Aug. 17, 1980. He was breaking up a fight between three inmates when he was fatally stabbed in the chest.  ​In his memory this scholarship has been established. Scholarship is open to family members of staff employed at California Medical Facility (CMF).
